Welcome to Stansted Mountfitchet u3a!
We’re delighted to have you visit our website where you can learn everything about Stansted Mountfitchet u3a. Whether you're a long-time member or new to the u3a community, you’re in the right place to explore everything we have to offer.
About Us: Founded in 2009, our u3a has grown into a vibrant community with over 300 members. We gather for our General Meeting on the 3rd Thursday of every month at St John’s Church Hall in Stansted. Arrive around 1:30 pm to enjoy free tea, coffee, and biscuits, buy a ticket for the raffle and socialise with friends old and new. You can also sign up for upcoming trips, events and group activities before the meeting begins at 2 pm.
Our meetings are far from formal. We start with brief announcements about forthcoming events then each month, a guest speaker delivers an engaging talk, often humorous, always informative. Prospective new members are always welcome to come along to a meeting and see if they would like to join us. Check the Events page for details on our next meeting.
Interest Groups: Our members run a wide array of interest groups covering diverse hobbies, educational pursuits, and interests. These groups meet weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, and occasionally for special events. Visit the Groups tab to explore these options and find contact details for the Group Leaders. We are always eager to support the formation of new groups so, if you don’t see what you want, we welcome suggestions for other activities.
Trips and Holidays: We organise exciting trips and outings throughout the year which are always popular with our members. Visit the Trips page for more information on upcoming adventures.
Joining Us: If you’d like to join our u3a, download the Membership Application Form from the Contact tab. You can bring the completed form to a General Meeting or mail it to the address provided.
Our Broader Community: We are proud to be part of a national network of over 1,000 u3as throughout the UK, all dedicated to fostering lifelong learning and community among people who are no longer in full-time employment. Our activities are member-led, and all our committee members, group leaders, and helpers are volunteers. To learn more about the national u3a movement, visit the u3a Home Page.
We look forward to seeing you at a General Meeting or exploring our website. Welcome to the Stansted Mountfitchet u3a community!
